Jacketing in reinforced concrete (enlarging the existing cross section of a column with a
new layer of concrete that is reinforced with both longitudinal and transversal bars) is one of the most
used techniques in the rehabilitation, repair and/or strengthening of columns of this material. This
technique is carried out in most cases without totally discharging the columns during the
reinforcement construction process, due to the difficulty that this represent. There is a small amount of
test where the reinforcement is built under the action of a load on the column, this is a reason why we
still need to delve into the influence of the load on the column during the reinforcement process on the
behavior of the strengthening column. A numerical simulation is carried out by the finite element
method of a series of reinforced concrete columns strengthening by increasing its cross section, the
results are compared with those obtained in the experimental tests.
