Resumo

This work aims to study the effects of cutting parameters, such as feed per tooth and cutting speed, in tradi-
tional machining process. For this, a bi-dimensional orthogonal cut model was used to represent the problem on

a commercial finite element tool. The Johnson and Cook plasticity model was assumed to describe the behavior
of the work material in terms of yield strength and damage level. Inconel 718 alloy was used as the base material
due to its great importance in engineering. This material imposes challenges when machined and it is well known
for its low machinability. With the simulations, a qualitative analysis was made regarding the effects of the cutting
parameters on chip formation.
