Resumo

Despite the historically conservative stance of civil engineering regarding the adoption of new technologies, innovations such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (drones), digital twins, and the metaverse have been progressively transforming infrastructure management. These technologies have contributed to the reconfiguration of how infrastructure projects are designed, executed, and operated, resulting in significant gains in efficiency, accuracy, sustainability, and safety. In this context, the present study aims to analyze the impacts of Construction 4.0 on the lifecycle of infrastructure projects, encompassing the planning, construction, and operation phases. To achieve this objective, a systematic literature review was conducted, enabling a critical and well-founded examination of the main academic and technical contributions on the topic. The findings indicate a consistent trend toward improving construction processes compared to traditional methods, particularly regarding data integration, task automation, and data-driven decision-making support. However, barriers to the widespread adoption of these technologies persist, especially among small and medium-sized enterprises. This highlights the need for investment in public policies, professional training, and standardization of practices to enable and consolidate the digital transformation of the construction sector.
