Comparative Analysis of Concrete Strengths for High-Rise Column Design

This resarch presents a case study aimed to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of applying concrete with a characteristic compressive strength (fck) of 90 MPa in the columns of a 130 m high building. To this end, a comparative analysis was conducted with the fck 50 MPa concrete originally specified in the project. By maintaining the original geometric dimensions of the columns and utilizing the fck 90 MPa concrete, a reduction in the longitudinal reinforcement rate was observed in some columns at the lower floors, reaching the minimum reinforcement rate at the upper floors. The final stage of the study included a comparative analysis of the costs and the reduction in concrete volume between the evaluated models.Downloads
